Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (SIST), formerly Sathyabama University, is a private deemed university, situated at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It was founded in 1987 as Sathyabama Engineering College by the late Jeppiaar, and received its university status in 2001.[2][3]

The university is located in Sholinganallur, Chennai. It has a campus of 140 acres.[4] The university is located on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (formerly known as Old Mahabalipuram Road and popularly known as IT Corridor).[5]

Accreditation and certification[edit]

Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).[6] It has received ISO 9001:2008 certification.[7]

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology 55th in the engineering ranking in 2021,[10] 40th among universities[9] and 61st overall [clarification needed].[8]

Co-curricular activities[edit]

Sathyabama offers visits to companies. Some of the activities like Inplant Training, Advisory Bureau for Higher Studies, Entrepreneur Development Cell, Guest Lectures, Foreign Language Classes and Sports.[11]

Centre for nanoscience and nanotechnology[edit]

The Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was established in January 2006. The Centre was upgraded in 2011 with Advanced research Instrumentation facilities like FE-SEM, XRD, E-beam, DC thermal, RF, AFM, PLD, etc. The centre has a team of scientists working in the area of Material Sciences, Thin Film Coatings, Nanofabrications, Environmental Nanotechnology, Concrete Research, Marine Biotechnology, Nanobiotechnology and Molecular Medicine, Nanomedical Sciences and Drug Discovery, Polymer Chemistry etc.[12]
