A colleague and I (molecular biology education) were pondering the significance of this image. She was unable to see any significance in the links without knowing the original topic, whereas I can see it as a symbol of interconnectedness. Can you tell us what the original topic was? Do you have others? Do they conform to a similar pattern or a set of patterns?

You can find more info on the page we've created here, which represents the extent of our research on this. The visualization is from a wiki used by academics over five years to help organize their notes and also facilitate groupwork. The core represents where a lot of our daily activity occurs and it's tightly connected since there is a lot of collaboration on various projects. What you see on the edge are more "one-off" pages created to take notes during a conference, or used by a group of students for a specific class in the past.
