This map is unprojected and should not be used ever[edit]

This is an unprojected map of the United States. Good cartographic practice strongly discourages use of unprojected maps (as well as certain projections like Mercator projection) because they distort distance, area, or direction on the map, or a combination of all three. On a map of a smaller place, like a small state or county, this isn't such a big deal, but on a map of the entire US, the amount of distortion is great, and will give people the wrong impression of size and spatial relationships on the map.
