"Slick axe" is a term used by Gransfors Bruks to describe the tool. There is no standard term in English for the tool. The most commonly employed word is "mortising axe", but also twybils are called mortising axes, even more commonly. In addition, there exists a narrow-bladed axe, which is struck with a mallet, also called a "mortising axe". Both of these tools are more common in the English-speaking world than the slick axe. I think "Slick axe" is very descriptive of the tool. The tool is called "stichaxt" in German and "demi bisaigue" in French. Tritonist (talk)
