Unlikely?[edit]

It's now nearly 9 years since Adrian was kind enough to email his permission to me to use that image, which at the time appeared on his webpage here. That email has long since disappeared, as has The Goldcliff Fisheries. I see that the photo was used, by Peter Coates, in his 2006 book Salmon, published by Reaktion Books, ISBN-13: 978 1 86189 295 9, ISBN-10: 1 86189 295 0: see pages 113-114 Coates credits the picture: "photo courtesy of Adrian Williams, Goldcliff Fisheries" (see page 210). Adrian was obviously not the photographer, as the photo was taken, according to Coates, in 1923. I'll try and track down Adrian again, but I don't hold out much hope. It'll certainly take longer than a week to get an OTRS ticket organised. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:35, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Martinevans123: If you're actively working this, then go ahead and add {{OTRS pending}} to the file page. Kelly hi! 20:56, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That template says "An email containing details of the permission for this file has been sent in accordance with WP:OTRS." Sorry, but I'm not in a position to send such an email. In the past my requests at OTRS have taken weeks and have often failed. I've added all that I currently know about this image above. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:11, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Martinevans123: I'll add it myself. This will give you as long as the OTRS backlog (normally a few weeks) to sort things. I apologize for the trouble. If the file is deleted before permission comes in, you can request undeletion at WP:REFUND. With respect - Kelly hi! 21:15, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Unsurprisingly, the email address I had for Adrian seems to no longer work. I have dug out a possible postal address from public domain company information and I've sent him a letter. We'll just have to see if he replies. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:30, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Adrian has now provided his permission. He also confirms that the picture could easily date from 1923, which is certianly a surprise to me. I wonder should this date be added to the article(s) captions? Martinevans123 (talk) 15:57, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting....I've copied the file to Commons:File:Putchers.jpg and this copy on en Wikipedia will likely soon be deleted. I wonder if I should put "circa 1923" as the date on the photo. Kelly hi! 16:06, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Adrian seems sure and it has been published (captioned) with this date by Peter Coates (see link above). So I think we'd be justified. Now that it's public domain, I guess there is no impact on copyright anyway. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:14, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done You're almost certainly correct that it's out of copyright, but it's nice to have the OTRS ticket to be sure. Thank you for tracking this down! Kelly hi! 16:25, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
