This plaque is indeed found in James Court, Edinburgh and it is clear that James Boswell lived at James Court. However, sources suggest it was in the WEST wing which was destroyed by fire in the 19th Century (see R. Chambers Traditions of Edinburgh, for example). This plaque is found in the EAST wing. Recent refurbishment has exposed a staircase consistent with a description by Boswell of his flat being two-floors and connected with such an internal staircase. However, it seems likely that this was a similar flat from the WEST wing. I cannot categorically disprove that Boswell did not live here adjacent to the plaque. It is entirely possible that the flat (as well as the Jolly Judge, below) is indeed Boswell's home, but more evidence is necessary to support this claim.
