Well, as usual, the information given is slightly incorrect. The Marine sitting in the middle of this picture of the (3) Guam troops is my father, Dr. John Kenneth Butler. He achieved the rank of Major almost 13 years after this photo was taken, but was most likely a Sargent in 1944. Not sure who "Major W.W. Butler" is or was, and I'm not trying to offend him or the author, but my Dad is 93 now and knows it's him!
