Blindness is not Blackness

Talk:Glaucoma#It_doesn't_look_black notes that partial blindness is more akin to what normal people "see" in their fovial blind spot; the brain "smooths over" the gap so that it does not stand out from the surrounding image. Although these images are provided by the NIH, would it be more appropriate to use "transparent" rather than "black" to indicate areas of total impairment, and "semi-transparent" rather than low contrast to indicate areas of restricted acuity?
