Request for Removal and Replacement This is not an image of Napoléon on the Battlefield of Eylau, but of a poor and probably much smaller copy. The facial expressions lack the detail of Gros's painting (which would therefore be comical if rendered as large as they are at Louvre), and the man hugging the leg of Napoleon does not have a skull cap in the original. Napoleon himself looks more hungover than saintly in Wikipedia's version (though of course there is an element of that in the original—but his facial expression is much more subtle). Compare to this stock image of the painting at Alamy.com, where even in that heavily watermarked and much smaller "preview" image the differences between the two are striking, and clear. Edit: Actually—I found a large resolution image of the original here, on the Italian Wikipedia page. I don't know how to fix this myself so I would appreciate it if someone else could. I also noticed that the information about the painting itself here seems to be either grossly out of date, or vandalized—a museum in Toledo is claiming credit for housing the work? I was just at the Louvre last Thursday—I can assure everyone this painting is not in Toledo. But is the museum the reason for the presentation of such a gross and abject copy? Are they trying to paint over the original in a misguided attempt to lure visitors? Or is this a postmodern art hoax by someone with no affiliation with the museum at all? Whatever it is, this should be fixed, and by someone with more skill at Wikipedia than I have.
