Rationale

The file is a scanned image of an Alberta Homestead Map circa 1918 and is likely, but not confirmed, a part of the public records of the Province of Alberta. The depicted map of the six townships is a handwritten record of the land holders and is a statement of fact; not an original artistic work. In addition, under the Copyright Act and Regulations of the Government of Canada, Works of Crown copyright (i.e. government publications) are protected for 50 years after the work is published. Confirmed. The scanned image is from a publication of the Cummins Map Company of Winnipeg which was founded by Oliver F. Coumins (later changed his name to Cummins). The company was a private business producing directory maps for commercial use. Originally located Regina, the Cummins Map Co. begain producing landowner maps based on local assessment rolls for Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba in 1917.
