Summary

Description
English: Nihonto (traditional Japanese (steel) bladed weapons)): A Yari (spear); close up of the spearhead, mounted in a shirasaya; the blade is a simple (classic) 3-sided (triangular in cross-section) single tip yari, approximately 1 shaku (roughly 1 ft) in length (which is intermediate/moderately-long for a simple-form single point yari) with a groove & character inscribed & detailed with red lacquer, on the "front". NTHK certified, 1500s-1600s, from my personal collection. This shot shows the "front" side of the yari blade; a single flat surface. the blade is hand-tempered along its full length on the 2 cutting edges, which look "fogged" or "frosted" as compared with the rest of the steel. The blade has been polished, within the last few years, to a reasonable show quality, although it is in need of cleaning & oiling. When examined in detail, the blade shows minor scratches from post-polish use, & both grain details & minor flaws in the steel, as would be expected of a pre-modern (or traditionally made) Japanese blade; especially a thick-bladed weapon, intended for practical, everyday use.
