Summary

Description
English: Whitrope Heritage Centre A short length of restored railway line near the summit of the Waverley Route which was the North British Railway's line between Edinburgh and Carlisle, through the Scottish Borders. Opened in two stages, between 1849 and 1862, the railway linked the Border towns of Galashiels, Melrose, St.Boswells and Hawick. Despite sterling efforts by enthusiasts to prevent closure, it finally closed in November 1967. A short way beyond the bend the line entered the summit Whitrope Tunnel. The Whitrope Heritage Centre http://www.wrha.org.uk/waverley_route.html is planning to restore a short section of the line between Whitrope and Riccarton Junction, the junction with the Border Counties Railway to Hexham.
