Summary

Description
English: A diagram of "Raspberry", a tactic used in World War 2 by Allied escort ships to defend merchant convoys from German submarine attacks. This diagram is based on a diagram in Captain Gilbert Roberts R.N. and the Anti-U-Boat School by Mark Williams, p. 96.
  1. Under the cover of night, a U-boat sneaks into the convoy and torpedoes a merchant ship.
  2. The U-boat dives and turns around to escape from astern. The escort ships to the rear and the flanks of the convoy fall back to form a line behind the convoy.
  3. The line of escort ships trawl for the U-boat using sonar, and release depth charges when they find it.
