  • F943: Faille, Jacob Baart de la (1970) [1928] The Works of Vincent van Gogh. His Paintings and Drawings, Amsterdam: J.M. Meulenhoff, no. 943 .
  • JH156 : Jan Hulsker (1980), The Complete Van Gogh, Oxford: Phaidon, no.  156.
  • In June 1882 Vincent's work was interrupted both by illness (he needed hospital treatment for gonorrhea) and by his partner Sien's difficult confinement. In July he went back to work with a will and this watercolor, admired by Hulsker, was one of the results. Hulsker remarks that Vincent's description of it in letter 250 is fascinating. Vincent used a perspective frame (built by the same carpenter whose yard can be seen in the drawing) for this drawing (Naifeh and Smith p. 292). Hulsker identifies other watercolors executed in this month as Bleaching Ground F946, Fish-Drying Barn F945, and Pollard Willow F947 (Hulsker pp. 52-4). Hulsker also thought that Diggers in Schenkweg F927 was the watercolor referred in letter 251 but the VGM dissent and think the present watercolor F943 is the one being referenced.
  • See also sketch in letter 251, as well as drawings F939, F944, and watercolor F1022 with sketch F1023 in letter 330.
