Summary

Description
English: The Zielgerät 1229 "Vampir" was the first night-vision sniperscope to be developed. The first units were delivered in 1944 and saw operation beginning in early 1945 on the eastern front. This image shows the Vampir mounted on an StG 44 assault rifle, being demonstrated by a British Army soldier. Note the very large battery back that powers it, on the soldier's back. The gun is lacking a magazine.
