Summary

Description
English: The United States gunboat Curlew. Built as a New England freight steamer in 1856, Curlew was used as gunboat by the U.S. Navy for short periods in both 1861 and 1863 but the vessel is not listed in the Navy's Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships and it is unclear from the record whether she was ever formally commissioned as a Navy vessel.
