Summary

Description The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Mansfield (DD-728) after receiving a temporary bow. Mansfield, while searching for a downed U.S. Air Force Douglas B‑26 Invader on 30 September 1950, struck a mine which severed the bow below the main deck, 5 crewmembers were missing and 48 wounded. She received a stub bow at Subic Bay, Philippines, before she steamed to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Washington (USA), for repairs.
