Summary

Description
English: Soviet commemorative 3 ruble silver coin (mass: 34.56g, mf: 900, diameter: 39mm, quality: proof) of the first all-Russian coins (i.e. coins minted by a unified Russian state, specifically the Tsardom of Russia) , commemorating 500 years of the Russian State.
  • Obverse shows the coat of arms of the USSR, the Russian text for "USSR" (СССР, tr: SSSR), the signature mark of the Leningrad Mint, the mass of silver in the coin in grams (31,1), the metallic composition and millesimal fineness of the coin (Ag 900), the coin's denomination of 3 rubles (3 РУБЛЯ, tr: 3 RUBLYA), and mintage year of the coin (1989).
  • Reverse shows three medieval "wire money" coins (i.e. silver wire cut to an appropriate length then struck between two dies to create a crude coin), one bearing the likeness of Saint George and the Dragon, another bearing the engraving of a dragon, a third coin of unknown design, the Russian text "FIRST ALL-RUSSIAN COINS" (ПЕРВЫЕ ОБЩЕРУССКИЕ МОНЕТЫ, tr: PERVYYE OBSHCHERUSSKIYE MONETY) on the coin's lower rim, and the text "500 YEARS OF ONE RUSSIAN STATE" in Russian (500 ЛЕТИЕ ЕДИНОГО РУССКОГО ГОСУДАРСТВА, tr: 500 LETIYE YEDINOGO RUSSKOGO GOSUDARSTVA) on the coin's upper rim.
Note: "tr:" is an abbreviation for transliteration.
