The ship, launched 7 November 1945, was laid up until activated 7 February 1952 for Army cable operations until transfer to the Navy 13 June 1966 to support Project Caesar, the unclassified name for Sound Surveillance System support. The ship operated as USNS Albert J. Myer until 1994.
