Summary

Description

Researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have developed a ceramic-based aluminide coating that protects steel and superalloys against corrosion, oxidation and other adverse chemical reactions.

The coating is economical, easy to apply and does not chip off. Coated coupons of 316 stainless steel are shown after being spray coated with a hand-held spray gun. In the as-sprayed condition the coatings are very fragile and require careful handling until cross-linked and fired.
