Das Modell war insbesondere bei der Trix-Gemeinde in England sehr beliebt und kam dort sowohl in der Ausführung der LMS (London, Midland and Scottish Railway) als auch für die BR (British Railways) auf den Markt. In Deutschland war die Compound nicht erhältlich. Das Foto zeigt die LMS-Ausführung mit Wechselstrommotor und nach außen stehenden Bürsten.

Das Vorbild dieser Lokomotive stammte von der ehemaligen Midland Railway. Die ersten Exemplare wurden im Jahre 1902 gebaut. Der Verbundantrieb (Smith Compound) bestand aus einem innen liegenden Hochdruckzylinder und zwei außen liegenden Niederdruckzylindern. Die im Trix-Modell dargestellte Variante wurde ab 1914 in Dienst gestellt und ab 1924 von der LMS auf insgesamt 240 Exemplare erweitert. Die letzte Compound wurde 1961 aus dem Verkehr gezogen. Eine Maschine (Nr. 1000) bleibt der Nachwelt erhalten.
