The box art is a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company, without being unnecessarily high resolution. Copies made from it will be of inferior quality, unsuitable as artwork on pirate versions or other uses that would compete with the commercial purpose of the original artwork. |
| Purpose of use |
The image is used to identify a video game, a subject of public interest. The significance of the box art is to help the reader identify the game, assure the reader they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the game, and illustrate the nature of the game in a way that words alone could not convey. |
| Replaceable? |
Because it is artwork there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary. |
