This informal photograph of the Ninety-Third New York Infantry was taken in 1862 just before Antietam. In it we see the quality of the men who dropped the pursuits of ci\il life and flocked to form the armies ofthe North. Thus, in camp and on the battlefield the camera did its work and now takes us back over thefour terrible years, showing us to the minutest detail how our men marched and lived and fought. Theyouth of the troops is strikingly evident in this picture as they stand assembled here with their arms hastilystacked for the ever-pleasurable experience of having their pictures taken.
