any other system of defense itshould first be diagramed on the blackboard and eachplayers duties thoroughly explained. On the field themen should be made to walk to their positions, then trotand then get there as quickly as they know how. Thenext step should be to introduce an offence which at firstoffers no resistance. The defense forwards should learnto get by their opponents on the inside and get sharply totheir positions. Now let the offense make resistance andfinally execute some straight plays. By this time thedefense should be in good enough working order to beused in a regular game with the second team. When the opponent is going to kick from any pointbetween the two 40-yard lines the ends should take posi-tions back of the line and about five yards out fromtackle.
