Description
English:
The bathing Ghat, Siwan, India, ca. 1906
Black and white lantern slide showing a set of "ghat", steps leading down to a bathing area (usually to a holy river) in Siwan, Bihar, India. A figure can just be seen on the steps. The original caption to this slide reads: "The bathing Ghat, Siwan, where on festival days the people go to perform their ablutions." This slide comes from a collection created by missionaries from Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational Protestant evangelical mission working in northeast India (Bihar and Orissa) and Nepal.
