Summary

Description
English: The Molineux Hotel, Wolverhampton Seen from the ring road by The Wanderer public house. Built in about 1720, the house originally consisted only of the lower floors of the main block's front half. Wealthy ironmaster and banker, Benjamin Molineux bought it in 1740, and decided to call it Molineux House! The building, having been considerably extended by the family, eventually became a hotel in 1871. It was cruelly cut off from the town centre by construction of the ring road in 1969, and closed its doors in 1979, falling rapidly into dereliction for nearly thirty years, before persistent efforts finally culminated in its restoration and further extension, completed apart from some some details by spring 2009. It now houses the City Archives and is Grade II listed.
