Summary

Description
English: St George's day 1918, on the bridge of 'HMS Canterbury'. When the great naval raid took place on Zeebrugge and Ostend. In the foreground three officers look intently. An officer (probably: Cuthbert Coppinger, Lieutenant, Navigating Officer) on the right operates a sextant. Behind them on the left stand two crewmen using binoculars to stare at the sea beyond the bridge wall. It's a sunny daytime scene but all the men are warmly dressed. The officer in the centre (Capt. Percy Royds R. N.) wears a floor-length duffel coat. On the deck behind him sits a small black dog. In the right foreground the steering gear is contained in a metal cylinder with the upright metal communications trumpet nearby.
