Summary

Description
English: Tamworth Registration Office and Old Stone Cross public house, Church Street, Tamworth Two conflicting versions of the history of this building. ImagesofEngland states that it was first built c.1770, became a malt house in the early 19C and a Baptist chapel in 1870. The porch was added in 1908 and it became an arts centre in 1970. The heritage Trail leaflet states that it was built as a theatre in 1821, was converted into a Baptist Chapel in 1879, into a multi-purpose Arts Centre in 1974, and into the town registry records office in 1999 (The OS still caption it as an arts centre). The Old Stone Cross public house was built in the early 18C over early 16C cellars. The façade was reconstructed in 1974. Brick with some timber framing and concrete dressings. (ImagesofEngland)
