Summary

Description Talbot Avenue bridge, Old, one-lane overpasses like this one used to be common all over the US. However, given the need for increased capacity and clearances on both the roads and the railroads, recent decades have seen most of these bridges replaced or removed altogether. This bridge was built in 1918 and still carries plenty of vehicle traffic through this residential area of Silver Spring, still known as Woodside in the years that the bridge was first built. It clears modern autoracks with just a bit of room to spare. It's crazy to think that such a peaceful looking scene is just under a mile away from the hustle of Washington DC, although if Metro's purple line project goes forward, this area may be disrupted in a short time.
