Summary

Description
English: GW 'Star' 4-6-0 at Swindon.
View SE, approaching Swindon from the Gloucester line on the way to Paddington. There were always many locomotives to be seen as one passed Swindon. Here, seen from a train and coming off the Locomotive Depot next to the Wagon Works is a Churchward 'Star' 4-6-0 freshly painted after repair at Swindon Works: No. 4025 - formerly named but now just labelled 'Star Class'. It was built 7/1909 and named 'King Charles' until 10/27 when it was renamed 'Italian Monarch', until the removal of 'enemy' names in the War (6/40); it survived until 8/50.
