Summary[edit]

Non-free media information and use rationale true for Madman Muntz
Description

Stereo-Pak ad circa 1967

Source

[www.capsnews.org/apn2007-1.htm], originally Los Angeles Times

Article

Madman Muntz

Portion used

All, so as to correctly represent the company's intended branding

Low resolution?

Yes, 72 dpi screen resolution

Purpose of use

To illustrate and confirm the fact that Earl Muntz designed his ads in a specific manner: using young models, flashy cars and a modern image as modern was considered in the late 1960s. The image is used only in the section pertaining to this topic

Replaceable?

irreplaceable as the original sources (newspapers, magazines, etc.) are always copyrighted, and therefore no free variation of this (or any) Muntz Stereo-Pak ad is possible. A free replacement that conveys the same information cannot be "reasonably" created as any modern creation would fail to properly represent the original branding, unique period-related clothing and atmosphere, and as Muntz Autostereo players are extremely rare today (their active commercial life and production ended over 35 years ago). The image is necessary to convey the information in ways that a simple sentence alone cannot: what kinds of women Muntz used on his ads, how the taglines were portrayed with the model, and how she interacted with the Autostereo player to create an all over suggestive and modern image around his product.
