Summary

Description
English: Imperial Hotel during construction, Quilpie, 1925.

Construction of the Imperial Hotel, on the corner of Brolga and Buln Buln Streets, which was built by Harry Corones. The photograph was taken by Jack Metcalfe, a carpenter on the site.

Harry Corones' involvement in the hotel industry extended to Quilpie, where he operated three hotels, managed by his nephews Jim and Harry Corones. In August 1921 the Quilpie Hotel in Brolga Street, was purchased from Ernest and Emma Culliford and in 1925 the Imperial Hotel was constructed. In 1926 a fire swept through Quilpie and destroyed the Quilpie Hotel. A new Quilpie Hotel, known as The Brick was constructed on the site. In October 1934 the Club Hotel was leased from Castlemaine Perkins Brewery and later purchased in 1965. (Description supplied with photograph).
