Summary

Description

On the Røros Line, the branch line running between Hamar and Støren. It runs through the beautiful and wild Østerdalen Valley, more sparsely populated than Gudbrandsdalen, its western neighbouring valley.

Trains on this line kill a vast amount of moose (also other kinds of wild animals) every winter. The tracks are cleared of snow, making them easier to walk on or beside. Train drivers carry a gun with them and shoot animals that have been run over.

During the 2006-2007 season, a total of 930 moose/deer etc were run over in the counties of Hedmark, Sør-Trøndelag, Nord-Trøndelag and Nordland, where many trains of the Norwegian State Railways are diesel-hauled.
