Summary

Description
English: The Southampton railway tunnel, UK, Western end, North side with slab track laid to increase clearance for high-cube shipping containers on standard height container wagons. The recess viable was formerly used for refuge when inspections of the tunnel were carried out during the running of trains. The water in the tunnel drains in from above and runs out from either end due to the shallow gradients from a slight "summit" within the tunnel.
