Description
English: Japanese aircraft carrier Shinano in Tokyo Bay during her sea trials. At the time the photo was taken, she was conducting steering tests, which is the reason the ship has a slight heel in this shot. A civilian, Marine engineer Hiroshi Arakawa, took the photo while he was aboard a tugboat which was also undergoing trials. At some point he presented a single print of this shot to the president of the company that owned the tugboat; in turn, the president gave it to Shizo Fukui. Later on, it was given to Walter Chesneau, who held it up to at least 1987.[1]
Date 11 November 1944[1]
