Summary

Description

Lloyd Williams served as a company commander of 51st Company, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines during the battle of Belleau Wood. He is credited with saying "Retreat? Hell, we just got here!" when advised to withdraw by a French officer at the defensive line just north of the village of Lucy-le-Bocage. He died on 12 June 1918 of wounds received while leading an assault.
