Summary

Description
English: The Journal Building (also Journal of Commerce Building / Daily Journal Building), 83 Columbia Street (southeast corner of Western Ave.) stands at the northern border of the Pioneer Square neighborhood, Seattle, Washington. An entrance ramp from First Avenue to the Alaskan Way Viaduct (State Route 99), visible at upper left of photo, now comes within a few meters of the building.

See Summary for 83 Columbia ST / Parcel ID 7666202580, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, for more discussion of the building. They say that only the ground floor was originally built in 1898, but Image:Seattle - Puget Sound News Company - 1900.jpg dates from 1900 and shows a 3-story building at this location. Also, while they say that the Daily Bulletin, predecessor to the Daily Journal of Commerce, "only definitely became associated with the building in 1918" the 1900 photo shows it as the Puget Sound News Company, which was a publisher of several small Puget Sound-area papers (though I don't know for certain that the Daily Bulletin was one of these).

The building visible at right is the Old Post Station, Seattle Steam Company.
