Description
Español: San Benito de Palermo y los Chimbángles. El culto a San Benito de Palermo se realiza en muchas regiones de Venezuela, pero es quizás en el Estado Zulia donde se lleve a cabo con mayor fervor. Probablemente sea en el sur del Lago de Maracaibo donde alcance su máximo esplendor por la multitudinaria participación de la población y la esmerada elaboración del ritual. Tiene su momento culminante los días 27 y 28 de diciembre y finaliza el 6 de enero. San Benito, Patrón de Palermo, también conocido como el Moro, era hijo de negros esclavos manumitidos. Muerto a finales del siglo XVI, su culto se extiende por las comunidades de esclavos negros americanos.
