English: SSgt W.G. Wilson, USMC, Combat Cameraman with 2nd Marine Air Wing in South Pacific.
Staff Sergeant William G. Wilson was a combat cameraman and Marine aviator assigned to both the 1st and 2nd Marine Air Wings in the South Pacific during World War II. he saw action on Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Peleliu, Munda, Espiritu Santo, Rabaul, Leyte Gulf and New Georgia in the British Solomon Islands. Though primarily assigned as a motion picture cameraman, he also produced still photos and was a qualified tail-gunner. He flew numerous combat missions, protecting pilots from the back of diver bombers and other Marine aircraft. For courage under fire on one critical aerial photo mission he was personally awarded a commendation by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.
