Other information
  • Brown began working in television in 1952 as the graphic artist and puppeteer for Garfield Goose. He began working at this job when the show was at WBKB, stayed with it when it moved to WBBM-TV, back to a new WBKB, and then on to WGN-TV. He worked with the Garfield Goose puppets until they went off the air in 1981.
  • Brown also performed puppetry for other children's shows: he was the puppeteer for every show Ray Rayner did that featured puppets. Brown remained the puppeteer for Rayner's shows until Rayner's retirement in 1981.
  • Brown's first work in front of the camera came in 1968, when he created the character of Cooky the Clown for Bozo's Circus. He remained on the show until poor health forced him to retire from WGN-TV in 1994.
  • The shows Brown participated in won many local Emmy awards; Brown himself won one for his role of Cooky in 1992. He was also inducted into the International Clown Hall of Fame in 1993.
