Deutsch: Eiserne Pfahlschuhe der Holzpfähle, auf denen die Pfeiler der Heidelberger Neckarbrücke (Deutschland) gründeten. Die der Spitze aufgesetzten Pfahlschuhe erleichterten bei der Tiefengründung das Einrammen im Flußbett. Ihre Gestalt hat sich seit römischer Zeit kaum verändert. Von links nach rechts:
  • 1. Pfahlschuh der römischen Pfahljochbrücke um 80 n. Chr. (40 cm lang; 3,75 kg)
  • 2. Pfahlschuh der römischen Steinpfeilerbrücke um 200 n. Chr. (46 cm lang; 3,8 kg)
  • 3. Pfahlschuh der "Alten Brücke" des Kurfürsten Carl Theodor von 1786 (75 cm lang; 12,5 kg)
  • 4. Pfahlschuh der hölzernen Behelfsbrücke der US-Armee 1945 (58,5 cm lang; 11,2 kg)
English: Iron drive shoes for wooden piles, which served as foundation for the pillars of the Neckar bridge in Heidelberg, Germany. Their design has little changed for the last 2000 years. From left to right:
  • 1. Drive shoe of the Roman timber bridge around 80 AD (40 cm long; 3.75 kg)
  • 2. Drive shoe of the Roman stone pillar bridge around 200 AD (46 cm long; 3.8 kg)
  • 3. Drive shoe of the 1786 "Alte Brücke" (Old Bridge) of elector Carl Theodor (75 cm long; 12.5 kg)
  • 4. Drive shoe of the wooden temporary bridge of the US army in 1945 (58,5 cm long; 11.2 kg)
