Summary

Description
English: Monumental brass depicting Sir Bernard Drake (d.1586) formerly affixed to tomb-monument he had erected in memory of his brother-in-law Richard Fortescue (d.1570) in Filleigh Church, North Devon. He kneels toward the right. Arms of Drake of Ash, nr. Musbury are shown in the dexter escutcheon: A wyvern gules. The escutcheon to sinister shows the arms of his wife, Gertrude Fortescue. A matching brass of similar form, from the same monument, depicting Richard Fortescue exists in the same church, kneeling to the left. Remembrance of a frynde his brother Drake doth showe,

Richard ffortescue died at Filleghie ye last day of June 1570".
