Description Circuit of a vacuum tube reflex radio receiver invented by German scientists Wilhelm Schloemilch and Otto von Bronk, from their 1914 patent. The unique feature of the reflex receiver is that the same vacuum tube is used to amplify the radio current and the audio current from The radio signal from the tuned circuit is amplified by the tube and the amplified signal is applied to a crystal detector. The detector extracts the audio (sound) modulation from the radio carrier wave. Then the audio current is applied back into the grid circuit of the tube to be amplified again. The amplified audio is separated from the radio signal by the capacitor and is applied to the earphones. The reflex receiver circuit was used in inexpensive vacuum tube radio receivers during the 1920s and also portable tube radios during the 1930s.
