| Description |
English: Reflectivity (left) and Doppler (right) returns from a Wind Farm about 30 miles southeast of the KBUF NEXRAD weather radar in Buffalo, NY. The radar has a sophisticated clutter/interference removal scheme, however the scheme was designed to filter out spurious returned (reflected) energy that has little or no motion. This is effective for removing the returned signals from terrain, buildings, and other non-moving structures. Unfortunately, the radar sees the rotating wind turbine blades as targets having reflectivity and motion, hence processes these returns as weather.
Français : La réflectivité (gauche) et la vitesse radiale (droite) retourné vers le radar NEXRAD BKUF (Buffalo, NY) par des éoliennes situées à environ 50 km au sud-est. Le programme de traitement des données peut éliminer les échos de sol et autres artéfacts car ceux-ci ont des généralement des vitesses nulles. Cependant, les pales des éoliennes tournent et leur vitesses n'est pas nulles. Ces échos sont donc affichées comme de vraies précipitations. |
