Summary[edit]

The real Mangpa, the priest of Rai ethnic group. Main duty of Mangpa is to carry out death ritual. It is believed that without his performance the spirit of death person would be trapped in the bad spirit world (or become Sehen) and keeps haunting people around. In Kirat Rai belief that who dies less than around 65 years of age or even old person dies by spilling blood such as involving in an accident or operation or the person had deform body while he/she was alive then he/she would not be regarded as a Pitri (or will not go to heaven). If the spirit becomes SEHEN then Mangpa has to release (kill) the spirit from Sehen life using his weapon (Wasong) so that the spirit will take life in other living being and if the spirit is not harmful or not going to haunt then Mangpa normally placed it at Wasuri or in the garden. Those who dies in older age naturally without spilling blood then he/she would be accepted by Pitri in the heaven and would be worshipped in Chula by his/her male offspring. Apart from death ritual Mangpa carries out all sort of day to day ritual too.
