  • There are no copyright marks on either the front or back of the postcard, as can be seen in the links to the photos of them.
  • It was created for distribution to the show's viewers; copies were distributed in response to fan letters, photo requests, etc. The image was meant to attract attention and publicity for the actor pictured and the show he was part of. The aim of this image was exactly the same as the publicity shots/stills done in the film industry.
  • The rear of the photo clearly indicates that the ultimate source for it was WGN-TV. Copy from back of card: "Hi! Thank you very much for watching my show on channel 9. Dr. Fisher of the Lincoln Park Zoo, Chelveston, Chauncy, Cuddly Dudley, Mr. and Mrs. David and all the rest join me in sending you our warmest best wishes. Be good! (signed) Ray Rayner and His Friends." The old WGN-TV logo is also seen on the back of the card.

Licensing[edit]

A further examination of the back of this postcard back of card indicates that WGN-TV did not place any copyright marks on it at all. Therefore the license can be changed from promotional non free to public domain prior to 1978. The approximate date of this postcard is circa 1967, as the Chicago Tribune began giving away the Cuddly Dudley dogs shown on it as a promotion in 1967. The card is prior to the Cuddly Dudley dog being used as a puppet on Rayner's show.
