Summary

Main components of a basic Radar system.

The original image that this one replaces was drawn with low-resolution pixel art, and done so in a style that reflects older technology. In order to create a higher quality image, this one required extensive modifications. The following changes were made while translating objects into vector format:

  • The overall layout was retained, but received minor tweaks to the sizes and positions of the various objects.
  • The fonts and their sizes have been modified to take advantage of the loss of resolution constraints (e.g. text labels now fit inside their respective boxes).
  • An object was added to the bottom of the radar dish to represent the position/control apparatus
  • The waveguide and apparatus control lines were rerouted slightly to better correspond to their function.
  • The computer systems depicted in the original image have been replaced by more modern-looking systems, composed of these revised components:
  • The computer, originally a flat-style box, was replaced with a tower-style box of my own creation.
  • The keyboard, originally generic, was based on the one I use with my machine. The images on the "Windows" keys have been replaced with a depiction of a Rutherford model of an atom.
  • The monitor, originally a generic CRT, was loosely based on a Dell E172FPb flat panel.
  • The mouse, originally generic, was based on an image of a common Logitech three-button wheel mouse.
  • The original image did not show anything on the screens for the computers depicted therein. I have filled those spaces with the following:
  • The text listing on the "Radar software" screen is a listing of the top level directory for Linux Kernel version 2.6.22.19.
  • The "radar sweep" on the two "user" screens is my own design.

Fair Use Rationale: An image of a basic Logitech mouse was sought out and used as a guide to draw the one used here, but the image itself has been excluded, thus avoiding violating anyone's copyright. While the likenesses of the Dell E172FPb and Logitech mouse are the property of their respective creators, the drawings of them used herein are fairly basic, and are intended to only moderately resemble the original hardware. Furthermore, the presence of these images, especially at the sizes depicted in this drawing, do not in any way affect the ability of any company to sell those or similar items.

Added small objects below antenna to suggest motors/control apparatus. Rerouted waveguide and control lines accordingly. Resaved as "plain SVG" to further reduce file size.
