| Description |
A Royal Australian Navy Douglas A-4G Skyhawk ("886") of 805 Squadron taxis in after performing its routine at Naval Air Station at Nowra (HMAS Albatross). HMAS Albatross held an open day and air show to celebrate the twenty first anniversary of the Naval Air Station at Nowra. The Royal Australian Navy had a well deserved reputation for having the best air shows in NSW and this day was no exception. There was a huge attendance and it took some hours to cover the few kilometres into Nowra at the end of the day. The return to Sydney that night was bumper to bumper traffic all the way. The A-4G 886 (USN BuNo 154907) was lost at sea when it rolled off the deck of RAN carrier HMAS Melbourne (R21) on 24 September 1979. Melbourne was caught in a storm circa 350 km east of Australia when the ship suddenly rolled 20 degrees to starboard and the aircraft was lost. |
