Summary

Description
English: Coughing. This annotated series of shadowgraph video clips (displayed in slow-motion at half-speed for clarity) shows a natural, uncovered cough as a control, followed by a series of interventions that people may perform in everyday life, i.e. putting a fist or open hand or tissue over the nose and mouth, as well as the effectiveness of a novel ‘coughcatcher’ device, a surgical and N95 mask in containing the cough puff (also referred to as ‘plumes’ in the video). Images captured using the Photron SA1.1, at 1000 fps, at 1024×1024 pixel resolution, formatted for playback at half-speed, with a 32-year old male subject.
