Summary

Description
English: This curious monument in Rome, the so-called Pulcino della Minerva, is a statue designed by the Baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini (and carried out by his pupil Ercole Ferrata in 1667) of an elephant as the supporting base for an Egyptian obelisk found within Emperor Dominican's garden. This structure is located in front of the Santa Maria sopra Minerva church of Rome. The obelisk itself is the shortest of eleven Egyptian obelisks found in Rome and is said to be one of a pair of two obelisks transported from Sais, the capital city of the 26th Saite dynasty of Egypt. The two obelisks were brought to Rome by Diocletian, during his reign as emperor from 284 to 305 AD, and placed at the Temple of Isis which stood nearby. This obelisk was first constructed under the 589-570 BC reign of pharaoh Apries. (the Bible's Hophra)
